Don't throw your corneal lenticules away
Preserve them for your future self.
Good news for all SMILE patients!
Are you going for a vision correction procedure (e.g. SMILE, CLEAR, SmartSight) to correct your short-sightedness and/ or astigmatism? Good news! You now have the opportunity to preserve your own corneal lenticules obtained from your vision correction procedure, as your own biological resource. These lenticules can potentially be used to treat eye-related conditions* in the future.
What is Corneal Lenticule?
Corneal lenticule is a disc-shaped tissue extracted as a by-product during the laser refractive surgery procedure to correct myopia.
Preserving Corneal Lenticules
In recent years, international researchers have been performing implantation of lenticules on the eyes of patients to correct vision disorders.
Lenticules are usually applied on patients using tissue addition technique. Preliminary results from clinical trials have shown such procedures to be safe and carry a low risk of rejection.
Potential uses of your Lenticules
Lenticule (re-)implantation is additive to the cornea’s thickness, reshapes it and intentionally shifts that eye towards myopia.
Advantages of using your biological lenticules over synthetic options1
Lenticules are usually applied on patients using tissue addition technique. Preliminary results from clinical trials have shown such procedures to be safe and carry a low risk of rejection. Compared to the use of synthetic inlays, lenticule re-implantation avoids the risk of corneal inflammation, scarring and haze due to superior biocompatibility. In the event of any adverse effects or rejection, the procedure can be easily reversed.
- No scarring of the cornea
- Reduce risk of corneal inflammation and hazing
- No rejection
